This wine is sourced from eight different vineyards, from the villages of Schnait and Strümpfelbach, The vines are twelve-to-thirty-six years old, the grapes are fermented with wild yeast and aged in stainless steel vats. If you've been looking for a winter rosé, then look no further.
Trollinger, also known as Schiava or Vernatsch, from Southwestern Germany & Northern Italy, is known for it's quaffability, particularly in and around Württemberg where it is almost exclusively grown. This late ripening grape produces red wines that are very light bodied with balanced acidity and very slight tannin, resulting in a wine that could almost double for a rosé.
It can be hard to find good examples of Trollinger outside of it's little section of Germany, but this one from Weingut Knauss is a great example of what good Trollinger can be like. This clear, ruby colored wine is packed with strawberry and cherry with a slight mineral note and fresh acidity. It's best enjoyed with a slight chill and the liter sized bottle makes it a great one to bring to your next party!
