Stein - Palmberg Kabinett Trocken 2021

At this point Ulli and Phil Lardot are the sole owners of Palmberg - it can be considered a monopole! It is truly their happy place and if Ulli were playing to bigger audiences perhaps be more widely known. It is without a doubt one of the best vineyards in the entirety of the Mosel - solid cliff face of blue and grey slate, all terraced micro parcels of 80-100 year old vines. This is the entirety of the 2021 production from the vineyard - bracingly dry with extraordinary levels of extracts and zippy. 

Winemaking with Ulli is refreshingly light on “style,” instead focusing on what the vineyards say to him. Certainly there is a focus on wines that are dry; lightness and zip are more important than gobs of fruit. Complexity is good, but not at the expense of the whole – better to be simple and well done than overdone and, well, a mess. Cut is more important than size.
