This small backyard slope sits above the eastern side of the Bassi Vineyard, on a property belonging to one of the neighboring Bassi Ranch estate homes. Planted to just 15 rows of Dolcetto, these vines grow on the same sandstone soils as the Bassi Vineyard.
Farmed entirely by hand, this is our first bottling of this pasta-craving wine. Harvested in mid-September, the fruit was fully destemmed and fermented with native yeast in 228L upright barrels. The ferment received daily hand punch downs and was pressed at dryness in our wooden basket press.
Expect red and black fruit notes (cherry, plum, maybe dark berries) with some herbal, earthy undertones — the site (sandstone soils) and the farming/aging suggests a wine with clarity and structure rather than overt extraction.
Pair with pasta…and roasted or grilled white meats like pork tenderloin, herb-roasted chicken, meaty fish or root-vegetable dishes with herbs.
